Stuckness: Working With Uncertainty and Confusion

This discussion explores how professional coaches can recognize, normalize, and work productively with the experience of “stuckness.” Rather than treating uncertainty, indecision, or confusion as problems to solve quickly, participants will consider how these moments may signal an important transition, an unexamined assumption, competing values, or a need for deeper reflection.

Together, we will discuss practical ways to stay present when a client—or coach—does not yet have clarity. Topics may include distinguishing productive uncertainty from avoidance, using curiosity without rushing toward answers, supporting clients through ambiguity, and helping them identify small, meaningful next steps when the larger path remains unclear.

Participants are invited to share approaches, questions, and anonymized examples from their coaching practice. The conversation will emphasize creating enough safety, space, and structure for clarity to emerge without forcing it.
