Coaching Across Cultures in Asia: Towards Building a Leadership & Team Coaching Evidence Base
As organizations in Asia grow increasingly interconnected and global, coaching leaders and teams across cultures has become not just important, but essential. Leaders and teams are operating in a cultural mosaic and coaching must reflect that complexity to best support the clients. Our role is not just to “work across cultures,” but to coach in a way that honours, reveals, and responds to culture, in all its depth and contradictions.
Many of the dominant models we reference today were developed in western context, which may be detached from the lived realities of Asian leaders, teams, and coaches. This roundtable is grounded in Asian realities, informed by practitioner wisdom, thought leadership and research.
The roundtable will explore a critical challenge: How do we coach across cultures in ways that are relevant and effective in the Asian contexts? We will have a dialogue around how cultural dynamics are showing up in leadership and team coaching engagements, how practitioners are navigating these, perhaps in ways that diverge from accepted theory. This is also a first step towards building an evidence-base for coaching across cultures with an Asian lens.
We invite you to join us for a meaningful dialogue in a co-creative space to reflect, challenge assumptions, and start shaping a new practice-informed narrative about:
- What’s working (and what’s not) in cross-cultural coaching across Asia
- How theory stacks up against the on-the-ground reality
- What inner work do coaches need to do to show up with presence, humility, and effectiveness in culturally complex coaching environments
- Whether we can begin to co-create a culturally rooted coaching framework for leaders and teams in Asia
The roundtable is a free quarterly live virtual discussion for our community, hosted by the Institute of Coaching Asia Roundtables. Let’s explore, learn & grow together and connect with each other and with ourselves.
Registration will close on June 18, 2025.
