Transformation in action

Transformation in action. That’s the phrase that always comes to mind during autumn – my favorite time of year. The leaves, with their explosion of color, vibrantly remind us of the cyclical nature of life. And this month the IOC gears up for our annual conference, one of the world’s largest gatherings of practitioners in the transformative profession of coaching. This year is particularly special as we celebrate our 10th anniversary, bringing together a smorgasbord of luminaries: Dan Goleman, Margaret Wheatley, Marshall Goldsmith, Susan Cain, Whitney Johnson, James Prochaska and Ryan Niemec, just to name a few!

Even more important, our annual conference shines a light on what we are most passionate about at the IOC: evidence-based research that supports the transformational work of our global community of coaches. Here are just a few examples of the research that will be presented at the conference:

  • Grant Recipient: Gordon Spence, PhD—Coaching for employee engagement using self-determination theory.
  • Grant Recipient: Les Schwab, PhD—Coaching to improve well-being and reduce burnout in physicians.
  • Grant Recipients: Steven Wendell, PhD and Janice Sabatine—Coaching for sustained career development among graduate students.

The work of these scholars – and many more – point to the power of coaching to transform and enrich lives. This month’s recommended book, from one of the IOC’s dear friends, Dan Goleman, also follows this theme of transformation. Altered Traits explores the history, evolution and scientific underpinnings of the power of meditation as a practice that can ineluctably change us: mind, heart and being. And, in this month’s webinar, Carlos Davidovich presents a neuroscience-based deep-dive into unconscious bias, reminding us that transformation always begins at home – as a quest for self-awareness.

We hope you will join us to experience our 10th anniversary celebration, but if you are unable to be in Boston on the 13th-14th of October, don’t despair! Many of the keynotes, talks and research sessions will be filmed and available for viewing on our website. So, no matter where you are in the world, you are invited to join us on the journey of transformation.

Namaste,
Jeff
