  • This month many cultures will celebrate the June Solstice – the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the winter solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. Around the world, the solstice served as an ancient anchor for farming, indicating when it was time to plant and harvest crops. Today it still signifies shifts in nature, change and new beginnings.

As we shift gears this month, it may be the perfect time to welcome play and creativity into your life and coaching practice. IOC programming offers plenty of resources for adding fun, creativity, and lightness to your life, work, and relationships.

Our last research dose features a 2017 article by Lockwood and O’Connor about the implications of play and playfulness for coaching. Cultivating playfulness in coaching means helping coachees adopt an attitude and mindset that integrates creativity, spontaneity, wit, and optimism into work, play, and interpersonal experiences. A playful mindset and engaging in play increases wellbeing, counteracts stress, improves creativity, and enhances relationships.

Upcoming webinars will also help you unlock creativity and improve wellbeing. Todd Cherches will show how to leverage the power of visual imagery, mental models, metaphor, analogy, storytelling and humor. Melissa Hankins will discuss how to recognize and work with trauma in your coaching practice.

Join us for CoachX (LinkedIn Live) conversations with Morag Barrett to explore insights about the power of professional relationships and Shaunna Gold about embracing race in our lives and relationships.

We hope you will engage with us this month to bolster your own resources and deepen your ability as a coach to alleviate human suffering and unleash creativity in service of human connection and wellbeing.

Have you ever wondered what drives the divide between your clients who readily meet their goals and those who continue to struggle, even despite their strong intentions and readiness to change? As coaches, we’ve been taught that there is a difference between coaching and therapy. Most coaches hear the word “trauma,” and place that squarely within the purview of the therapist. However, there are times—simply because our clients are human beings—that trauma will enter into the coaching space. In this webinar we'll dicuss some basic awareness and recognition of trauma, and consider what to do when it shows up in a session.
