The first time I was a CISO, my manager (the CIO) kept regular meetings with me, and opened the doors to connect with his peers. Everyone knew a good start was going to be critically important for my success as a first time executive. They made time for me, asked questions, and offered perspectives how they saw my role. But no one told me what to do. They coached. It was powerful.
Many CISOs — whether the first time or seasoned — are not this fortunate. I started New Cyber Executive because I’ve seen the difference that exploration and support can make. In many ways, CISOs face challenges similar to other executives. But CISOs also face a variety of unique challenges. Among those are the structure of their authority vs the scope of thier responsibility, and this creates unique dynamics and stress. My executive coaching helps clients exammthis and many other issues unique to CISOs.
Armed with the insights from being a CISO myself, and supplemented by insights from hundreds of interviews with cybersecurity leaders, I work with CISOs and cybersecurity leaders almost exclusively. I offer the Executive Transition Blueprint to experienced cybersecurity executives starting new roles. For those in a role for a year or longer and looking to level up, I offer Open Pathways, also designed for CISOs. Both address the unique challenges and opportunities faced by Chief Information Security Officers and senior cybersecurity leaders.
