John is known globally as a top executive coach and trusted advisor to senior leaders, and as the leading advocate for stronger quality standards and competencies for practicing coaches to professionalize the industry. He is an MG 100 Coaches (100coaches.com) member designated as a master coach by three firms including the ICF and Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coaching. He has been a Managing Principal since 2005 with Quinn Reed Associates (quinnreedassociates.com).

He integrates expertise in business, strategy consulting and psychology, as well as coaching. He has undergraduate and MBA degrees from Dartmouth and, as an organizational psychologist, a PhD from the University of Georgia with an internship at Emory. A Navy veteran, he previously worked in the strategy practice of Accenture and the government practice of CGI.

He has 30 years of coaching and trusted leadership advising, executive assessment, organizational change and strategy consulting experience supporting over 50 client organizations in the aerospace, biotechnology, chemical, construction, consumer products, defense, education, energy, entertainment, environmental services, federal government, financial services, healthcare, legal, manufacturing, not for profit, pharmaceuticals, real estate, retail and technology sectors.

John is a Founding Fellow and Contributing Author of the Institute of Coaching at McLean/Harvard Medical School. His latest book published in 2022, for example, ‘Pinpointing Excellence: Succeed with Great Executive Coaching and Steer Clear of the Rest’, is a popular buyer's guide for evaluating and selecting only top coaches. He also teaches MBA courses as an adjunct professor while contributing as a speaker.

He is the 2013-14 president and a member of the Society of Psychologists in Leadership, and a member of the Society of Consulting Psychology. He serves on editorial boards of these organizations. His psychologist license was issued in 2000.

In volunteering, John cares about education and helping children and veterans. He has a history of board service, for example as the president of an inner-city Houston school, the Nehemiah Center. He supports institutions including The Honor Foundation, The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, Dartmouth College and Deerfield Academy.  

He and his wife Perry Ann, a senior healthcare leader, have four children.
