John is a top-ranked coach and advisor to senior leaders. Three firms designate him a Master Coach: the ICF, Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coaching, and the Worldwide Association of Business Coaches. He is an MG 100 Coaches (100coaches.com) member and the #1 proponent of stronger professional standards for practicing coaches to benefit and protect clients. 

He integrates expertise in business, strategy consulting and psychology, as well as coaching. He has undergraduate and MBA degrees from Dartmouth and, as an organizational psychologist, a PhD from the University of Georgia with an internship at Emory. A Navy veteran, he previously worked with healthcare and energy clients in the strategy practice of Accenture.

He has over 6000 documented hours of coaching and trusted leadership advising, together with assessment, organizational change and strategy consulting experience supporting over 50 client organizations in 15 sectors including legal, healthcare, and technology. John's latest recognition (2023) is the Distinguished Psychologist in Leadership Award. His latest book (2022) is Pinpointing Excellence (pinpointingexcellence.com), a popular buyer's guide for evaluating and selecting only top coaches. As the 2013-14 president and a member of the Society of Psychologists in Leadership, and a member of the Society of Consulting Psychology, he serves on editorial boards of these organizations. His psychologist license, issued in 2000, is current.

In volunteering, John helps children and fellow veterans. He has a history of board service, for example as the president of an inner-city Houston school, the Nehemiah Center. He supports veterans through The Honor Foundation and MBA programs at Dartmouth and Vanderbilt.   

He and his wife Perry Ann, a healthcare leader, are based in Miami and Austin.
