Dr. Sally Ourieff brings over twenty years of experience as a physician, corporate leader, and founder of an international health care nonprofit to her work as an executive consultant and coach. As founder and principal of Translational Consulting, she helps leaders build the emotional and social intelligence they need to create clear leadership strategy, strong teams, engaged networks, and energized cultures.

Sally’s expertise in behavior, neuroscience, individual and team dynamics, and emotional and social intelligence provides a strong base of knowledge for her work. Her many years as a physician working with executives and professionals has given her an expertise that allows her to work with the most complex interpersonal situations. Her knowledge of hospitals, physician groups, biotech, and pharma enable her to understand the world of health care leaders. In addition, Sally has held leadership positions in a variety of health care settings. As Associate Medical Director of Merit Behavioral Healthcare Corporation, she was responsible for strategy of comprehensive programming and all managed care medical relationships throughout New England. In addition, Sally was Medical Director of Addiction Services, and developed and directed the department of Child and Family Services at Deaconess Waltham Hospital. She was also Medical Director of two community mental health centers. Sally has coached clients in academia, biotech, law, and most recently worked at Bain Capital and Children’s Hospital Boston.

Prior to medical school, Sally worked as a journalist for the Lowell Sun Newspaper. She then combined her journalism and medical background working as an on-air radio host for Talk America, script advisor to Warner Brothers television shows (including ER and The Client), and on-air host for WFXT television original programming, one of which won a regional Emmy award. Sally uses her media background to address executive communication and presence, and also to help educate on the ways in which social, mobile, and cloud technologies are dramatically changing the leadership landscape.

Sally brings a positive, clear, and individualized approach to her work with leaders. She is certified to provide an array of individual and team assessment tools including the MBTI II, Hogan Development Inventory, LSI 1, Disc, Strong, VIA-IS, 16 PF, Firo-B, and customized 360’s.

In addition to Sally’s executive consulting work, she is also co-founder of Hatun Runa, a nonprofit that brings leaders, professionals, and students into the Peruvian Andes above the Amazon Basin to support medical, educational, and economic development. She has brought faculty from Harvard Medical School, teachers, engineers, business leaders, and students to this isolated region of the world. Teaching leadership in an extreme environment with limited resources allows both local villagers and Hatun Runa’s team to develop the skills, resourcefulness, flexibility, and creativity that are critical in creating change, whether deep in the mountains or on top of a high rise.

Sally currently writes a column on "Life, Work, and Well-being" for the Boston magazine Exhale. She graduated in Human Biology and Journalism with Academic Honors from Stanford University and received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School. She is a Founding Fellow of the Institute of Coaching at Harvard Medical School and project lead for the Boston Leadership Coaching Roundtable.
