Dr. Velma L. Cobb directs the Touro College Lander Center on Educational Research and is an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Education, based in New York (NY). The Lander Center supports professional development of PrK-12 educators, graduate school faculty, and research on teaching and learning. A certified leadership coach; trained Leadership Circle Profile and Culture Survey practitioner; and a licensed Bigger Game trainer, she uses a whole-brain learning approach that incorporates positive organizational scholarship, mindfulness, collaborative inquiry, data-driven dialogue, SMART technologies, emotional intelligence, and other brain-based methodologies.
Founder and Principal at V L Cobb Leadership Group, she optimizes individual and organizational potential. The collaborative partnerships she develops with clients is reflective of her ability to balance individual and organizational support with sufficient challenge for movement that enables authentic leadership and builds creative and innovative teams that contribute to organizational success and sustainability and the creation of inclusive, collaborative, and compassionate cultures.
An experienced trainer, group facilitator, and leadership consultant, Dr. Cobb holds a baccalaureate degree from Brandeis University, a Master’s in Education degree from Harvard University, and a doctorate from Columbia University’s Teachers College. Her preparation in relationship, mind-based training and other contemplative practices include: Organization & Relationship Systems Coaching (ORSC) - Fundamentals; Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute; The Institute for Mindful Leadership with Janice Marturano; and CARE (Cultivating Awareness and Resilience in Education) developed by Dr. Patricia "Tish" Jennings at the University of Virginia.
