Impostor Syndrome is a phenomenon seen in high achieving individuals in which they are constantly plagued by the idea that will be exposed as a fraud. Every mistake, misstep, experience of not-knowing is interpreted as evidence of this fraudulence. 70% of people report that they have experienced Impostor Syndrome in their lifetime. The need to prove oneself can be immense and can reinforce a central component of Impostor Syndrome – overworking -- resulting in burnout, lack of balance, and a constant sense of insecurity.

In this session, we will identify the central characteristics of Impostor Syndrome so that you can recognize it in your clients.  You will come away with:

  • Understanding of the psychological origins of this common and insidious syndrome
  • Tools to help clients develop skills to re-frame their experience so they can internalize their successes, accomplishments and credentials
  • Knowledge of particular triggers so you can isolate them and diminish their ability to depreciate your client's sense of contribution and value

This highly interactive session will provide you with the research-backed tools you need to dismantle the foundation of Impostor Syndrome for your clients.  In addition, we will address specific domains where IS arises commonly, such as performance reviews, within cultural norms/behaviors of organizations, and within leadership dynamics.
