Members and Sponsors agree that they will:
- Refrain from claiming any endorsement or appearance that membership in the IOC creates any endorsement, connection or link to McLean Hospital or Harvard Medical School or Mass General Brigham. You may say that you are a member, or sponsor, or organizational member (indicate level) of the Institute of Coaching at McLean Hospital, Harvard Medical School affiliate; or you are a member (indicate level) IOC at McLean Hospital. Examples:
- Professional Fellow, IOC, McLean Hospital
- Associate, Institute of Coaching, based at McLean Hospital, a member of Mass General Brigham, and the largest psychiatric affiliate of Harvard Medical School.
- Silver Sponsor, Institute of Coaching,based at McLean Hospital, a member of Mass General Brigham, and the largest psychiatric affiliate of Harvard Medical School.
- You may not use the Harvard shield anywhere and you may not say you are a member of Harvard's Institute of Coaching. You may use the IOC logo on your website only as long as you indicate your membership affiliation.
- Adhere to the IOC Values and if you are a coach to adhere to the highest standards of Ethics and Integrity as are, from time to time, in use in the Coaching Industry within the U.S., regionally and internationally.
- Refrain from using or attempting to use the IOC or its website or name, to sell individual services, trainings, programs or materials of any kind.
- Accurately identify coaching qualifications, expertise, experience, certifications and credentials and to not claim direct affiliation with or statements you have any degrees from Harvard Medical School or McLean.
- Not knowingly make any public statement that is untrue or misleading or make false claims in any written documents relating to the coaching profession or their credentials.
- Agree to indemnify, defend and hold the IOC, its affiliates and agents, harmless from any claims, damages, costs and expenses occasioned by the member’s improper use of IOC name or materials, or improper use of copyrighted material of IOC or from its website.
- Understand that the IOC reserves the right to revoke my membership at any time, at its discretion, should it determine that I have failed to adhere to these terms and conditions.
- Understand that the IOC reserves the right to change these terms and conditions at any time.
- IOC membership is not transferable and you agree not to share your access to the IOC with someone who has not donated to the Institute.
Cancellation Policy
Membership Dues
- Institute of Coaching Members (Associate, Full Member, or Professional Fellow) who pay monthly will have their Credit or Debit Card on file automatically charged on the same date as the original transaction date on each corresponding month, or on the final date of the month if there is no corresponding date. (i.e. a membership started on January 31st will renew payment on February 28th)
- Institute of Coaching Members (Associate, Full Member, or Professional Fellow) who pay yearly will have their Credit or Debit Card on file automatically charged on the date as the original transaction date on the same date each year.
- Individuals who join the Institute of Coaching through a free trial or special offer will have their Credit or Debit Card on file automatically charged at the standard membership rate after their trial period has ended. (i.e., if an individual starts a one month trial membership that begins on January 1st, they will incur their first membership fee on February 1st)
Canceling Membership
- Institute of Coaching Members (Associate, Full Member, or Professional Fellow) are able to cancel their memberships through their My Account Page on the IOC website. Once a member has logged onto the website, they can go to the ‘Members’ section. From the dropdown selection members can select ‘My Account’. Once on ‘My Account’ members are able to select ‘Cancel Membership’ to initiate a member cancellation. Membership cancellations are initiated through our website, we are not able to respond to membership cancellation requests through email unless this request is within the first 72 hours of a new membership cycle.
- Once a IOC Member has initiated a membership cancellation, they will lose access to member-only IOC resources at the end of their current payment cycle (i.e., if a Member’s payment is made on the 15th of a month, and they cancel their membership on the 20th, they will be able to access the IOC website and resources until the 15th of the following month).
Membership Level Downgrades

Individuals who want to move from a Full Membership to an Associate Membership or Professional Fellow to an Associate membership are allowed to do so at any point during their membership payment period.
- User’s moving down from a higher membership level to a lower membership level (e.g., Full Membership to an Associate Membership, Professional Fellowship to Full Membership or Professional Fellowship to Associate Membership) will not receive a refund for the membership fee for the period between their membership change request and the end of the current payment period for their initial, higher-level membership. The user will retain access to IOC benefits and the website at the higher membership level until the end of the current payment period. At the beginning of the next payment period, they will be granted access to the respective downgraded membership level and will be charged at the corresponding downgraded payment rate
Membership Level Upgrades

Individuals who want to move from an Associate Membership to a Full Membership or to a Professional Fellowship (pending application approval) or from a Full Membership to a Professional Fellowship (pending application approval) are allowed to do so at any point during their membership payment period.
- Users upgrading from a lower membership level to a higher membership level (e.g., Associate Member to Full Member, Full Member to Professional Fellow, or Associate Member to Professional Fellow) will have the additional membership fee credited towards their next payment month. If a member has paid for part of a month at a lower membership level and then upgrades, they will pay the higher membership fee for the first month following the upgrade. The member will receive a credit for the remaining portion of the previous month’s payment, which will be applied towards their second payment at the higher membership rate. (For example, if an Associate Member pays on January 1st and upgrades to Full Membership on January 8th, they will pay the Full Membership fee on February 8th. Similarly, if an Associate Member upgrades directly to Professional Fellow Membership, they will pay the Professional Fellow Membership fee on the next payment date and receive credit for the remainder of the Associate Member payment.)
- If an Associate Member Initiates a Full Member Trial, their payment cycle will be adjusted to coincide with the initiation of their trial.
Refunds
Institute of Coaching Membership Dues are non-refundable. Cancellation requests require a 30-day notice prior to the renewal date to cancel a subscription renewal. Please note, this cancellation policy applies only to the renewal and does not apply retroactively to past paid months/years of membership. This policy applies to memberships started through the Institute of Coaching Website, as well as promotions, special events, and trial periods.
