This case study summarises how an ongoing coaching programme was implemented
in a UK mining organisation to help develop leadership performance and enhance
leadership behaviours developing a more supportive and people focused approach. We
outline how the use of Emotional Intelligence (EI) assessments complements a
Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (CBC) approach to contribute to evidence-based
coaching. We acknowledge the unusual organisational context and culture which
resulted in some resistance to the discussed approach but note how the use of ‘data’ in
the form of individual psychological profiles and a rigorous goal-based coaching
approach went some way to alleviating initial reluctance.
