Jay Azarow, PhD is an organizational psychologist, management consultant, and executive coach who helps difference-makers innovate and succeed. In his Silicon Valley-based global practice, he advises leaders and their teams and organizations on how to refine their mission and strategy, renew their culture, collaborate more effectively, and thrive under pressure.

Dr. Azarow works with clients in four complementary areas: strategy development; leadership selection and development; team development; and organization development (including cultural renewal, stress management, and performance enhancement). His work couples a spirit of open inquiry with wide knowledge of the behavioral sciences — and is marked by a deep respect for empirical rigor, industry expertise, and cultural understanding.

Dr. Azarow has worked with innovative for-profit and nonprofit organizations of all sizes (from early-stage startups to multinational giants) from a wide spectrum of sectors, including: technology/new media, finance, renewable energy, healthcare/public health, human services, education, professional services, government, and the arts. He has extensive experience as an instructor, trainer, and facilitator, in both academic and organizational settings. Trained at Northwestern University (PhD in counseling psychology) and Stanford University (postdoctoral fellowship in psychiatry and behavioral sciences), he has taught at both institutions — including many years in the residential executive education programs for nonprofit and arts leaders and social entrepreneurs at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Prior to becoming a psychologist, Dr. Azarow spent twenty years in senior roles in healthcare/public health and management consulting, where he consulted to hospitals on quality improvement issues and to a variety of organizations on cultural renewal and employee health. He received national recognition in the 1980s for his pioneering work in designing comprehensive stress management and employee wellness programs for several well-known Silicon Valley technology companies. These projects led to engagements as a consultant to leadership teams and as an executive coach, and eventually inspired him to become a psychologist.

Dr. Azarow is a frequent speaker to professional and community audiences, and the author of several peer-reviewed scientific articles and a professional workbook. He lives and works in Palo Alto, California.
