Biographical Highlights

 

Dr. DeAngelo embraces challenge and winning in her diverse accomplishments. Everything in life takes energy, and she is a good role model and coach because she pursues her dreams.

Her research and other scholarly activities have been presented in journals such as International Journal of Aging and Human Development, Journal of Health Psychology and Clinical Psychology in Medical Settings. She has been a lecturer or adjunct faculty member in Psychology Departments at well regarded institutions such as William Jewell College, Missouri State University and Arizona State University. She was mentioned as a nominee for an Ig Nobel Prize in Biology (no, not the Nobel Prize but the Ig Nobel Prize) for her pioneering research on psychological aspects of germs and contagion. The award is given to researchers who create interesting, unusual research that helps get the public interested in science. In 2015, she was a contract writer and editor for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) in psychology. She has also been a consultant for one or two episodes of Castle, Girl Meets World, Switched at Birth, East Los High and Days of Our Lives, and for movie producers Sergio Unmansky and Oliver Irving. She is a consultant for The Science and Entertainment Exchange and Lear/Annenberg’s Hollywood Health and Society. In October 2018 she attended a conference at the International Film Institute in Cologne, Germany and gave a brief presentation, “Psychologist as Script Consultant.” In 2020, she consulted for students at the International Film Institute. Other pro bono work consists of serving as president on the Board of Directors for Art Song Colorado from January 2020-April 2021, and in 2020 and 2021, serving on selection committees for Colorado Humanities to choose the best books written by a Colorado author. In 2020 and 2021, she was a reader for the Vail Film Festival. She sings mezzo, light lyric soprano, and she has studied music with Juilliard graduate Cindy Saunders for more than four years. In July 2019, she sang in the Michael D. Williams Choir at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In February 2020, she performed with a choir at Carnegie Hall. Her speaking engagements include speaking at the Women’s Center in Laguna Beach, California, Chautauqua High School in Big Bear, California, the well-known Tattered Cover Bookstore in Denver and the Kansas City History Museum. Dr. DeAngelo is the author of Maestro Satriano, an historical fiction book based on her great-great uncle, Pietro Satriano, who was the first musician to perform at Red Rocks. Kirkus Reviews said, “A touching, often comic tale of cultural identity, passion and artistic inspiration. An affecting portrait of an artistically gifted family.”
