Dr. Kahn is Board-Certified physician in Internal Medicine, and has been on the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) clinical faculty since 1980. He reached the level of Clinical Professor of Medicine Step 5, the highest level for a non-research clinician. As a lecturer, educator, and personal development coach, he is focused on effective stress management and resiliency tools and techniques. The goal of this work is to diminish stress-related symptoms, improve health outcomes, and optimize performance in work, school, and overall life functioning. His audiences have included the UCSF faculty, staff, and students, various groups of San Francisco City and County employees, and individual coaching clients.
Accomplishments:
Dr. Kahn has given many presentations on “How to Sleep,” “De-stress Now in a Heartbeat,” “Optimal Performance,” “Happiness,” “Test Anxiety,” and “Resilience.” His programs are based on positive emotion refocusing techniques, and include heart rate variability biofeedback. In addition, Dr. Kahn piloted the combination of positive emotion refocusing, biofeedback, and strength and solution-focused patient coaching in a rapidly effective (1 to 5 visit) intervention for a sample of individual students in severe distress from anxiety or depression.
