The Institute of Coaching award “Excellence in Coaching Research” Award is established in the name of Dr. Anthony Grant, in honor of his commitment to innovative, impactful, and practically relevant coaching scholarship.

Dr. Anthony Grant was a key figure in advancing coaching knowledge, the teaching of research and thus of practice.

Unfortunately, on February 3, 2020, Tony Grant passed away and left a big gap in the field as well as an impressive legacy of scholarly work.

The world’s first Coaching Psychology Unit was established and later directed by Anthony Grant and team at the University of Sydney in 1999 and remains a leading institution in coaching psychology research, education, mentoring and practice. Tony Grant was a dear friend to the IOC, and instrumental in the establishment of the Institute; we could say that the IOC might not have existed without his support. We were honored to have Anthony Grant as a member of the IOC Scientific Advisory Council.

Considering Tony’s prominence as a scholar in the field of coaching, the broad impact of his mentoring, research and publications, and his many contributions to the field, the Institute of Coaching established an award in his honor.

The Institute of Coaching established the “Coaching for Social Good” Award in the name of Ellen Shub, in honor of her commitment to social activism, the art of photography and photojournalism, and to the field of coaching.

The award is presented for outstanding contributions to the research and/or practice of coaching which furthers social and climate justice, equity and peace.

Ellen was a beloved member of our team at the IOC and we continue to feel her warm and wise presence. While working at the IOC, Ellen connected the potential of coaching with the values she has held through her life - to contribute to human and social well-being.

We also very much treasure Ellen’s beautiful photography from the annual conference on Coaching in Leadership and Healthcare and hundreds of attendees now have precious photos, as memories of the event and the friendships created. At the IOC we remember Ellen with her wisdom, her kindness and gentleness as well as dedication to making the world a more just, and safer place.
